Course Description: The purpose of the 7th grade science curriculum is to introduce students to science processing skills through hands-on laboratory activities, problem-solving situations, open-ended investigations, and cooperative/collaborative work. (NGSS aligned) The emphasis will be on the life sciences with a continuation of the study of the physical sciences in the 8th grade. The topics in the 7th grade include: The Structural Organization of Organisms, Genetics, The Diversity of Species, Earth and Life History, Structure and Function in Living Systems, Physical Principles in Living Systems, and Scientific Process. A unit in Family Life is also included as part of the curriculum.

 

 

Grading Policy –All students will receive a letter grade based on exams (50%), assignment and projects (45%), and participation (5%). Final grades will be based on the percentage a student has earned.

90-100%= A   80-89.9%= B 70-79.9%= C   60-69.9%= D   Below 60%= F

 

Testing Policy- All students are expected to score 75% or better on all tests. Any student that does not achieve 75% or better must retake the test after a study session.

 

Assignment Policy- All assignments are to be turn in on time during class. If a student is excused absent, he/she may turn the assignment the first day back to school. It is the student’s responsibility to as for missed work when returning from a excused absence.

 

Unexcused Late Assignments-Any assignment turn in late will be given a maximum of 75%.

 

Grade Check- It is recommended that students and parent regularly check on their students’ grades weekly or bi-weekly basis. There are three ways to receive an up to date progress report for your student:

       out very three weeks.

Extra Credit- Extra credit will be given sparingly as an opportunity to improve a grade, only if all required work is completed.
